DIY Iced Coffee

All you need is a coffee machine, ground coffee (thanks for the Starbucks, Grandma), a large pitcher or cup depending on how much you want to make at a time and a little bit of patience.

First, simply brew coffee as you normally would. If you don’t own a coffee machine, how are you alive right now? (But, seriously, how?) Also, read this to learn how to cold brew your joe.

Next, pour the coffee into the pitcher, cup or whatever container you have around and let it sit at room temperature for a two to three hours. Here’s where that patience part kicks in.

After letting it sit out for a bit, put the coffee into the refrigerator and allow it to chill for at least two more hours or, preferably, overnight. You’ll be able to add “patient” to your résumé after this one, so you’re welcome for that also.

Finally, pull that beauty out of the fridge and bask in its aroma for, like, 30 seconds because I know you’re probably half-dead by now due to lack of caffeine. Pour over ice and add any sweetener, creamer or milk that you like.

Tip: Mix your sweetener beforehand and let it chill alongside your coffee. I combined milk with a little sugar and cinnamon in a small cup and put it in the fridge for a few hours before my coffee was ready.

It may have been the best decision I have ever made.

Enjoy!

DIY: Caramel iced coffee

Make your own caramel iced coffee at home with this easy recipe. This sweet and creamy DIY version tastes just as good as (if not better than!) any iced coffee you can buy. Plus, making your coffee at home is guaranteed to save you time and money - it's a win-win!

Quick Note: This is an updated version of a post that originally appeared on Bright-Eyed Baker in 2012, with a new and improved rendition of the original recipe.

I love an iced coffee. I don't love spending $5 on a glass of ice topped with what feels like five sips of coffee. And I love a local coffee shop, but I usually don't spare myself 20 minutes to stop for coffee in the morning before work. This recipe is the answer to my dilemmas -- and maybe to yours too! It's a super easy, sweet, creamy iced coffee, swirled with homemade caramel sauce, and made in under 5 minutes. IT IS SO GOOD.
