These are great for snack or a pack lunch or added to ice-cream. Keep checking the oven as the slices will vary in size when cutting them, so some of the crisps will be ready after 2 hours, some might need more time.

  1. Preheat the oven to 110°C. Line 2 large baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
  2. Put the sugar, lemon juice and 90ml water in a pan over a low heat. Stir to dissolve. Bring to the boil and cook for 3-4 minutes until just syrupy. Set aside.
  3. Slice the apple finely, discarding the ends. Dip in the syrup ,put on the trays in 1 layer.
  4. Bake for 2 or 3 hours, turning halfway, until dried.
  5. Transfer to a rack to cool and crisp.

Baked apple chips are one of the best healthy snacks for a weight watcher and a health freak. Plus, they don&rsquot require any effort and aren&rsquot too expensive.

Whichever your kind of apple you choose, it depends on your taste. Start by removing the core of the apples. Thinly slice the apple. The thinner the apple slice, the crispier the chips. If you want to get them to look like apple rings (like the photos in this post) use a apple corer. Sprinkle them with some salt. The salt adds a nice contrast to the sweet flavor the crisps.

Pop the apple crisps in the oven. Let them bake in the oven for 45 minutes and then flip them to the other side for 30 more minutes. This guilt-free snack will surely make your day as you will neither be feeling heavier on the stomach, nor on the heart.

With October just arriving, and a weekend spent with my family picking apples &ndash I couldn&rsquot wait to make these Apple Chips! Bonus: The entire family family loves them, including my toddler daughter!

Description

So addicting. And all you are eating is pure apples!

Ingredients

  • 3 apples (I use Granny Smith, Pink Lady, or Honey Crisp)
  • ground cinnamon
  • granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C). Line two large baking sheets with silicone baking mats. Set aside.
  2. Wash and thinly slice the apples as shown in the photos above. Spread the apple slices onto the baking pans making 1 single layer. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
  3. Bake for 1 hour, flip the apples over, and bake for another 1-1.5 hours. Turn the oven off and keep the apples inside as the oven cools down for 1 hour. This will help them get crunchy. Some apples may just be chewy and only slightly crunchy after 3 hours in the oven. Store apple chips at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

Apple Crisp Recipe – Apple Crispy Crisp

Homemade apple crisp is my oldest daughter, Nancy Hartman’s, favorite dessert. Some might say that she should be considered an apple crisp snob! She is very proud of this title since she has to make sure that every spoonful captures the crisp in each bite. Because of her high standards, she and her family call this recipe “Apple Crispy Crisp.”

Per Nancy, “In my opinion the apples are just a bed for the crisp to lounge on and should never disappear and leave your apples lonely. If you follow this recipe, each mouthful will be rich with apple, crisp, and ice cream down to the bottom of the bowl. You can thank me later.”

  • 6 large tart cooking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced*
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice or lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Zest from 1 orange, divided
  • 3/4 cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup firmly-packed brown sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon pure almond extract
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon, ground, divided
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Butter a 9x13-inch rectangular pan.

Prepare Apple Filling - In a large mixing bowl, add the sliced apples, lemon juice, and 1/2 of orange zest. Gently stir together until everything is well mixed. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pan and set aside.

Prepare Crisp Topping - In another large bowl, combine oatmeal, brown sugar, almond extract, pecans, flour, nutmeg, 1/2 the cinnamon, and remaining orange zest. Mash all the ingredients together until all dry ingredients are mixed in and mixture is crumbly. Slowly add the soften butter and blend until crumbly.

Sprinkle the prepared Crisp Topping mixture over the top of the apples. Sprinkle remaining cinnamon over the crumble mixture.

Place the prepared apple crisp on middle rack of oven. Bake approximately 40 to 50 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Remove from oven.


Isn't apple crisp a dessert?

My US readers may have landed here looking for an apple crisp, the dessert.

The American apple crisp is actually what we call apple crumble here in Scotland. A baked apple dessert where the apples are topped with a crumble (or when it comes out the oven a crisp) topping made from flour, sugar and butter (or dairy free spread).

Some people also add oats, muesli or granola to the topping too.

I know, it can get confusing sometimes, but all you need to know is that these are super tasty and healthy snacks. The perfect snacks for those that are watching their weight and a nice healthy snack for kids lunchboxes too.

Cinnamon Apple Crisps

Ingredients

  • 2 small apples
  • ½ tsp coconut oil
  • ½ agave nectar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 130c/110c fan/gas mark ½.
  2. Slice two small apples very finely, either with a mandoline or a knife.
  3. Mix together coconut oil and agave nectar. If the coconut oil is a little hard, heat it a little to soften it.
  4. Place the apple slices on a lined baking sheet and brush with the oil mixture, then dust with cinnamon.
  5. Bake for approximately 2 hours. Check after 1½ hours. The time these will take to bake depends on how thinly you cut the apples.
  6. Leave to cool and crisp up on the tray. Once cool, these will keep in an airtight tub for a few days.

Homemade Baked Cinnamon Apple Chips

Honeycrisp. When I see the first sign announcing the arrival of honeycrisp apples at the farmers market, I tend to become giddy. I try to hide my excitement as I buy way more than I need. Honeycrisp is my favorite apple, and usually around for only a short time during fall. Just the word reminds me of autumn hikes with my family and leaves turning every color.


Actually, when I travel back home to Wisconsin to visit my parents, we still make the apple orchard one of our stops. In the usual small-town style, of course we know the family that runs the orchard, and usually split a huge caramel apple while sampling the cider.

Apples picked from the tree always taste better to me. Baked apple chips are a great idea for that bushel of apples you bring home from the orchard. I have seen these popping up around the web so I wanted to try a sugar-free version, which makes it a great snack for kids too.

Two ingredients- so very simple! For the recipe, make sure to use apples that have a great flavor to begin with, that you would enjoy eating raw. Otherwise the chips might turn out bitter and you’ll be wondering why.

It can become an addictive snack, though if you’re short on time you might want to do something like these kale chips instead. Since you are basically dehydrating the apples ion low heat in the oven, it can take up to 3 hours. I like to make the apple chips on a weekend morning so that they are ready for a late afternoon snack. They take very little prep work, only about 5 to 10 minutes, and then you can throw them in the oven and forget about them for awhile.

The baking time varies, depending on your oven and how thick the apple slices were cut. You want to cut them as thinly as possible. Usually, mandolins work better for this sort of work, but I have found that the whole apple can be too wide for a mandolin. I use a sharp knife – which is why the thickness varies a teeny bit.

I usually eat these as soon as they are out of the oven. You want them to be crisp when you take them out. It is a great way to get a serving of fruit in your day- eating chips! As a bonus, apples are included on Paleo Grub’s list of the 20 Healthiest Paleo Approved Foods. They are a good source of fiber, and there’s a saying you may have heard about apples and keeping the doctor away, because they are so good for you. Next time I make these (almost guaranteed again next weekend) I might also drizzle them with some maple syrup, which would really complete their fall-perfection.


Easy Cinnamon Crisps

These Homemade Cinnamon Crisps are light, crispy, and low carb. They are an easy snack recipe.

The other night, I was craving something sweet. I didn’t really want anything heavy or overly sugary. Just a little something to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I didn’t really have anything on hand that fit the bill but I did have leftover tortillas from a recent batch of enchiladas. A while back I made these amazing Garlic Crisps from leftover tortillas so I decided to try a sweet version.

The result was these slightly sweet and crunchy Cinnamon Crisps.

These were extremely easy to make. I simply cut my leftover tortillas into eight wedges. After laying them out on a baking sheet, I brushed them with a light coating of olive oil and sprinkled a cinnamon and sugar mixture on top. They baked for a few minutes and the result was these sweet, crispy chips.

I was amazed at how easy they were to make. And even more amazed at how delicious they were!

They would go perfectly with some yogurt and fruit or my apple cranberry fruit salad. The would also be great as an afternoon snack or served alongside this pineapple salsa. Or, just as a snack when you’re craving something crunchy and sweet.

Pressed for time, or just pastry averse? If you can’t pull off a Fresh Apple Pie, an easy apple crisp is the next best thing. Just peel, core, and slice the apples toss them with a bit of sugar and cinnamon and dump them into a baking dish. Then mix the oats, brown sugar, and butter for the streusel in the same bowl you used for mixing the apples (that saves you a dish to wash). Sprinkle the streusel over the apples, and in about an hour you’ll have an easy dessert of bubbling apples blanketed with a crunchy, sweet topping. Feel free to adjust the sugar in this recipe to the sweetness of the apples, using 2 tablespoons for exceptionally sweet ones and 3 if the apples are on the tart side.

Tips for Christmas

Instructions

  1. 1 Heat the oven to 350°F and arrange a rack in the middle. Lightly coat an 8-by-8-inch baking dish with butter. Combine the apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and 1/8 teaspoon of the salt in a large bowl and toss to coat. Place the apple mixture in the prepared baking dish and set aside.
  2. 2 Using the same bowl as for mixing the apples, mix together the brown sugar, oats, flour, and remaining 1/8 teaspoon salt until evenly combined. With your fingertips, blend in the butter pieces until small clumps form and the butter is well incorporated, about 2 minutes.
  3. 3 Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples and bake until the streusel is crispy and the apples are tender, about 50 to 60 minutes. Let cool on a rack at least 30 minutes before serving.

Apple Crisp Homemade

Mix together ½ cup of the sugar with lemon juice, cinnamon and water. Pour into the bottom of your casserole dish or baking pan. Slice the apples and place them into the dish. Place the remaining ½ cup sugar, flour, salt, and butter into a food processor and process until it is crumbly. Spread over apples.

Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes.

Tip: If you like your apple crisp on the tart side then you should use Granny Smith apples. They also hold up better. If you like sweeter apples you should use Washington apples.
