- 3 to 4 cloves garlic
- 2 heaped tablespoons tahini
- 235g natural yoghurt
- juice and zest of 1 lemon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- salt, to taste

- Place garlic cloves in a blender or food processor and process to mince. Add the tahini, and process for a further few seconds then add yoghurt, lemon juice and zest, and cumin; process until smooth. Season to taste with salt. Transfer to a serving dish and serve.

Delicious as written but can be easily adjusted to your taste. I have made this with shwarma spices and other Middle Eastern seasoning mixes to coordinate with the dish it's used with. A staple around here! Fast, easy, healthful and delicious.-14 Jun 2018
Tahini Yogurt Sauce // 5 Minute Recipe
This creamy Tahini Yogurt Sauce will quickly become your new favorite quick & easy go to. Drizzle it over grilled salmon, serve it with lamb kebabs or shawarma, or use it as a yogurt dip for veggies.
A Middle Eastern Yogurt Sauce that comes together in 5-minutes, is super versatile, and can be dressed up with your favorite herbs & spices? Yes, please!
Tahini: I use homemade tahini made with just one ingredient and in under 15-minutes. Feel free to use store-bought versions, too – there are lots of brands of tahini out there for you to choose from.
The acid: For this recipe, I’ve used lemon juice though different acidic ingredients will work. i.e., limes, apple cider vinegar, etc. Experiment with each to find your preferred flavor profile.
Yogurt: The thickness of the yogurt you use will obviously affect the consistency of the tahini sauce. For thick and creamy sauce you can use thick homemade Greek yogurt or a store-bought version (which is creamy). You could also use natural yogurt for a thinner sauce. For a dairy-free/vegan version, then use dairy-free yogurt instead.
Note* I’ve actually included the yogurt as an optional ingredient. The remainder of the ingredients can still make up a wonderful tahini dressing recipe that can be thinned down to the required consistency. Read the recipe notes for direction on how.
‘Seasonings’: I’ve used parsley, minced garlic, cumin, and salt in this recipe as I pretty much always include them in the base. You can read my recipe notes for optional add-ins.
Whisk lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper into yogurt in a medium bowl to evenly distribute.
Do Ahead: Sauce can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill.
How would you rate Lemony Yogurt Sauce?
I've been making yogurt at home, so I'm enjoying experimenting with all different things to make with my yogurt. This is a real crowd pleaser and spruces up so many types of dishes. I made it in bulk (6 cups of yogurt), and it was really heavy on the lemon juice if I followed the recipe. I reduced to about 4.5 Tbsp per 2 cups and got a very lemony, delicious result.

WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE IN THIS TAHINI YOGURT DRESSING?
TAHINI: This dressing uses tahini which is sesame seeds that are ground into a smooth paste.
Tahini is also used in hummus like this Lebanese Hummus Recipe or this Lemon Hummus so if you buy you will have many uses for it!
GARLIC: I used 1 garlic clove in this recipe. If you like more of a garlic flavor feel free to add 2 to 3 garlic cloves.
YOGURT: I use plain Greek yogurt in my tahini sauce. I like the tangy, creamy texture is gives the sauce. You can also use plain yogurt but it won&rsquot be as thick and the flavor will be a bit more bland. If you use plain yogurt I would use more garlic.
LEMON JUICE & EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL: The extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice help to thin out the dressing and add nice flavor.
SUMAC: Sumac is a spice often found in Mediterranean cooking. I use it in this Fattoush Salad, Balela Salad and this Mediterranean Bean Salad.
The sumac adds a hint of citrusy, tart flavor to this Tahini Dressing.You can skip it or try paprika or za&rsquoatar instead.
- 1/4 cup (64 grams) pure ground tahini paste
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice (roughly 1 juicy lemon)
- 2 to 3 tablespoons cold water
- 1/2 teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 small garlic clove, pressed
- very finely chopped flat leaf parsley, cilantro, dill, or mint
- za’atar spice blend or ground sumac
How to make easy tahini sauce for falafel
EASY PEASY!! As long as you have these ingredients handy, this recipe is so fast and easy! All you need to do is measure out your tahini, lemon juice, water, salt and minced garlic and whisk it together! When you add the lemon to the tahini, it will seem very thin at first, but it will come together as you whisk it and become a thick and creamy lemon tahini dressing that is the perfect consistency!
