Here are 11 must-try dishes from my personal list, carefully selected after eating my way around Disney World on several occasions, but most recently during a foodie media trip.

Get Ready to Go Mad! Disney World Has an Instagram-Worthy Cheshire Cat-Themed Slush

It looks like we can finally know what Wonderland tastes like — and we are more than ready to fall down the rabbit hole on this one. Meet one of the latest enviable Disney treats that's about to be all over your Instagram feed: the Wonderland Slush. Not only does the drink, which debuted in November, look delicious, but it's also so bright and beautiful!

Found in Magic Kingdom's Cheshire Café in Walt Disney World, the $6 drink is themed after — you guessed it — the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. It's a layered grape Fanta and pink raspberry lemonade slushy that's topped with a pink rock candy straw. The café is located in Fantasyland near the Mad Tea Cup ride, which is great news, since those make the perfect backdrop for a colorful photo. Though some Instagram users admit the slush packs quite the burst of sugar, others are calling it "amazingly good." Besides, Alice in Wonderland is famous for those "drink me" potions, so slurping one down only feels like the right thing to do.

Disney Parks shares churro recipe, encourages fans to recreate snack at home amid coronavirus outbreak

Thousands of people packed Disney World for the final visiting hours before the park closes for the remainder of the month Phil Keating reports from Orlando on the tourism impact.

It’s just like being at Disneyland… albeit without the rides, or the shows, or the parades, or the fireworks, or a bunch of other stuff!

With Disneyland and Disney World currently closed amid the ongoing coronavirus health crisis, Disney Parks are still aiming to give fans their fix any way they can. To that end, the parks’ official blog recently shared a recipe for recreating their beloved Disney churros at home, using household ingredients most foodies might already have in their pantries.

“Being a BIG fan of Disney Parks snacks myself, this has inspired us to share one of my favorite recipes so you can continue creating #DisneyMagicMoments," wrote Alex Dunlap, the food and beverage coordinator for Disney (Disney Parks Blog)

“These past few weeks, we’ve seen many of you sharing Disney recipes and creating your very own magical moments right at home,” wrote Alex Dunlap, the food and beverage coordinator for Disney. “Being a BIG fan of Disney Parks snacks myself, this has inspired us to share one of my favorite recipes so you can continue creating #DisneyMagicMoments.”

In addition to the step-by-step recipe for the Disney-inspired “Churro Bites,” the Disney Parks Blog also linked out to a 2018 video demonstration of an identical recipe for “Churro Tots,” which, arguably, is a much better name.

Disney’s churro recipe is just one of the many ways fans are attempting to recreate the magic of the theme parks at home amid self-isolation. Last month, after both Disneyland and Disney World announced they would temporarily be closing in an effort to stem the ongoing health crisis, would-be guests began recreating the experiences of rides at home, with one even going so far as to stage Pirates of the Caribbean in their living room.

Both Disneyland and Disney World temporarily closed on in mid-March amid the ongoing health crisis, along with Disneyland Paris. Other Disney-branded parks across the globe, including Shanghai Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland and Toyko Disney Resort, had all previously closed.

Disney shared its famous kitchen sink sundae recipe, and it includes five flavors of ice cream

Kitchen Sink from Beaches & Cream Soda Shop at Disney’s Beach Club Resort (Walt Disney World Resort)

Located on the sprawling Crescent Lake, Disney World's Beach Club Resort brings guest New England charm from the heart of Florida. An incredible amenity is Stormalong Bay, a 3-acre water wonderland featuring 795,000 gallons of water and a 230-foot-long waterslide. Overlooking all of the action is Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, a boardwalk-style ice cream parlor that serves up nostalgia for summers spent along the Atlantic coast.

While you can feast on a wide variety of classic sandwiches on the menu — like a patty melt or a reuben — alongside your choice of not one but five different types of tots, this eatery is known for its ice cream-based treats, which include shakes, sodas and sundaes. Perhaps the most iconic of all is the kitchen sink sundae, which serves an entire family of four. It costs $35, which comes out to $8.75 per person.

The official menu description reads: "scoops of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream and mint chocolate chips smothered in every topping we have." And when Disney says "everything topping we have," they're being very literal. The five different flavors of ice cream are five of 28 total ingredients, which also includes not just a squirt of whipped cream but an entire can. This dessert is decadent — and the exact opposite of those two-ingredient brownies we love so dearly. Though the park is currently closed, Disney created a version that you can enjoy at home.

Disney isn't the only major brand to release some of its top-secret recipes as loyal fans have found themselves suddenly at home. Chipotle recently shared its guacamole recipe, DoubleTree published its chocolate chip cookie recipe and IKEA created a recipe for its iconic Swedish meatballs.

After you've tried making this recipe at home, tell us about the experience by leaving a comment in the box below this story. And don't forget to check out all of our offerings at Salon Food for more inspired recipes to make at home this week for dinner.

DoubleTree chocolate chip cookies

DoubleTree, the hotel chain known for serving its guests warm cookies at check-in, understands customers might be craving them by this point. That's why the company has published its recipe for the first time.

Here's how to make 26 cookies.

Ingredients:

  • ½ pound butter, softened (2 sticks)
  • ¾ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 2⅔ cups Nestle Tollhouse semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1¾ cups chopped walnuts
  1. Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
  2. Add eggs, vanilla and lemon juice, blending with mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy, scraping down bowl.
  3. With mixer on low speed, add flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, blending for about 45 seconds. Don’t overmix.
  4. Remove bowl from mixer and stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
  5. Portion dough with a scoop (about 3 tablespoons) onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Space about 2 inches apart.
  6. Preheat oven to 300°F. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
  7. Remove from oven and cool on baking sheet for about 1 hour.
  8. Cook’s note: You can freeze the unbaked cookies, and there’s no need to thaw. Preheat oven to 300°F and place frozen cookies on parchment paper-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
